Where to start
Okanagan Valley
175 kilometres of lake, bench and desert. The Okanagan holds the large majority of British Columbia's planted vineyard and is the only true desert wine region in Canada.
Similkameen Valley
A narrow, wind-scoured valley west of the Okanagan. Steep rock walls, big diurnal swings, and a high concentration of organic growers.
Vancouver Island
Maritime and mild. Cool-climate whites and sparkling, with the Cowichan Valley as the island's designated sub-GI.
Gulf Islands
Small island vineyards in the rain shadow of Vancouver Island. Tiny production, high scenery.
Fraser Valley
An hour from Vancouver. Cool, wet and green - aromatic whites and an easy day trip from the city.
Thompson Valley
Semi-arid benchland around Kamloops, and one of the northernmost commercial wine regions in the country.
Shuswap
Lakeside vineyards north of the Okanagan, cooler and later-ripening.
Lillooet
A young, small GI in the Fraser Canyon - hot days, cold nights, very few wineries.
Kootenays
Mountain valleys in the province's southeast corner. Fruit wine country as much as grape.
